The city of Puerto Plata is bordered by a boulevard facing the sea (malecón) and known for its outdoor restaurants, shops and nightlife.
The area has a large historic area with buildings dating from the year 1600.
The Amber Museum includes samples of ancient fossils, some worth as much as US $ 50,000. They show pieces taken from the amber mines in the mountains with ancient fossils.
The building housing the museum is considered a splendid example of neoclassical architecture with Victorian influence.
We will also visit the cable car of Puerto Plata, located at the top of the Isabel de Torres Mountain (855 meters above the sea). This cable offers a beautiful panoramic view of the sea and the surroundings of Puerto Plata.
It is one of the picturesque and impressive excursions that a tourist can get when visiting the Dominican Republic.
At the top of the mountain is surrounded by botanical gardens, a statue of Christ, plus of course, the stunning views of Puerto Plata and the surrounding ocean.
Fuerte San Felipe is located on a small peninsula in the Bay of Puerto Plata. This fort is, in fact, the only vestige of the colonial past of Puerto Plata.
You can look inside in a small historical museum and the small cell in which the hero of Independence, Juan Pablo Duarte, was caught shortly.
At the Ron Brugal distillery you will be accompanied into the huge plant that produces about 1.5 million liters of black and white rum each year. Of course, you can buy rum at very good prices and other very nice souvenirs.
